User's Guide to Filters Collection for SharePoint 2013, Part 5: Bamboo List Filter Web Part

Fear not, SharePoint 2013 users, Bamboo's Filters Collection for 2013 is here, and it's the predictably, wonderfully obvious solution to all your SharePoint filtering problems. Filters Collection includes five of the most popular, immediately useful SharePoint filter types that are available on the market. Filters Collection lets you customize Choice, Date, Text, and Current User filters, connect them to a Web Part, and have them up and running in no time. Best of all, the Collection also includes Bamboo's List Filter Web Part, which enables you to create complex, multi-column filters for List View Web Parts that are easy to make, and even easier to use.

In this final installment of a five-part series, we will introduce you to BambooList Filter Web Part and some of its key functionalities.

To begin, navigate to the Edit Page menu and click on the Insert tab.  Choose Bamboo Solutions from Categories and Bamboo List Filter Web Part from Parts:

After you have added the Web Part to your site, you will notice a warning message that the Web Part is not connected and List Filter Web Part will not appear to be functioning:

To connect the Web Part to a list for filtering, follow these directions:

Click the Edit Web Part menu. A Connections menu will appear under it.

Click Connection> Send Filter ValuesTo> List name(s)  (In this example, we'll be using the list "KCus.")

Please note that you can connect to one or more lists at the same time.

Next, choose a list to connect to and add the columnsas many or as few as neededto filter at the same time:

This is how the list will appear BEFORE filtering:

This is how the list will appear AFTER filtering.  Is this example, we chose to use the Date time and Number filters as our filtering variables:

To discontinue filtering, click the Clear filter hyperlink button:

In the event that you choose to select Choice-related data filters (such as Drop-Down Menu, Radio Buttons, Checkboxes, Single Text data) to filter, you have the option to filter values from an alternate list.

To do this, first check Select filter values from a different list.

Enter a site URL into the textbox and click Connect.

Select a Source List from the combo box.

Select a Source View from the combo box.

Select a Source Column from combo box.

After you have clicked Add, the tool pane will appear as pictured below.  In this example, we have selected Drop-Down Menu as the filter type:

This is how the list looks BEFORE filtering:

Now, select a value from the Drop-Down Menu to filter:

This is how the list looks AFTER filtering the Drop-Down Menu by Reston:

To disconnect to the list, go to Connections> Send Filter Values To> List Name (i.e., KCus):

A remove connection confirmation dialog box will display.  Click OK:
